Product Description
Our first Japanese aircraft comes in the guise of the Nakajima A6M2
Seaplane, this was a single seat aircraft based on the very successful Zero
fighter and made its maiden flight on December 7th 1941, the Allied nickname
for this aircraft was 'Rufe'.
Primarily designed to be utilised in the defence of Japanese island bases,
these aircraft were also deployed on ships in the reconnaissance role.
The Rufe was very effective in the anti PT boat role and scored several
successes against American boats, the wake of the PT boats being easy to
spot at night from above. Armed with 2 machine guns and 2 cannons plus bombs
if required, these aircraft could cause serious damage to an unwary PT boat.
With the Allied airforces encroaching daily into Japanese territory the
Rufes were also in constant aerial combat. Although not as fast as the Zero
the Rufe was almost as manoeuvrable and proved to be a tricky customer to
deal with in a dog fight.
We have 2 versions on offer of this beautiful looking aircraft and they are
as follows:
WOW024 Pale Grey colour
WOW025 Dark Green colour
Both aircraft are limited to 6 in number and priced at $650/£430 inc VAT per
aircraft plus P&P. Each aircraft comes with a trailer and 2 x free sentry
figures from RS002A and RS002B.
For those of you interested in the background production news behind this
piece, you may be surprised to hear that the project took over 9 months from
conception to fruition. This was the first floatplane our factory had
tackled and although we have a German Arado 196 in the works I am not sure
they will be keen to make any more seaplanes! The carving of the floats and
the trailer were a particular challenge. However I think you will all agree
the finished result was well worth the wait.
