Product Description

Welcome to the first of May's releases for our wooden warbirds, this time a
beautiful looking Pfalz D111 fighter in lozenge pattern camouflage, 2 firsts
for us in the 1/30 scale collecting world!
All of our wooden aircraft are hand carved with over 60 hours of work going
into each model and as such are strictly limited in number with availability
limited to a first come first serve basis. Each aircraft comes with a full
interior including dashboard and seatbelt detail.
The Pfalz D111 was a very sleek manoeuvrable and sturdy fighter that has
been overshadowed in history by the faster Albatros D111, however the Pfalz
was rated as superior to the earlier Roland designs and as such incorporated
many unique design features for an aircraft of this era. The Pfalz was best
suited to diving attacks on observation balloons due to its twin spar lower
wing construction which made it extremely strong. Around 750 Pfalz's were
manufactured in WW1 with some still being in service right up until the
armistice.
Our bird is represented by the one flown by Max Holzem, when he served with
Jasta 16b in 1917/1918. Holzem's striking aircraft was decorated with a
comet, this symbol represented his mother as a guardian angel, who had died
when he was 9 years old. The upper wing was also meant to be decorated with
a comet but most photos show it as an unfinished star pattern, logically the
remaining comet symbol would have been completed but for accuracy sake we
have left it unfinished.
Holzem survived the war and emigrated to Argentina but eventually ended up
working in the USA as a test pilot for Anthony Fokker's Atlantic Aircraft
Corporation. He became a US citizen and worked as a flight inspector on the
P51 Mustang production line during WW2, Holzem died in 1980 aged 87 years
old.
For the first time we have applied a lozenge pattern to our WW1 aircraft and
although an expensive process we feel the end result is well worth it.
Limited to 10 in number worldwide and priced at $499 this is one iconic
aircraft you really should have in your collection.
Our Pfalz (WOW30) comes free with a pilot figure (GW051C) of which only 20
have been made in this version and as such is only available with our
aircraft.
